hey lemmie tell you a thing

cosmopoeicpower:

meaning? in your artwork? a deep and contemplative analysis on philosophical or psychological things going on inside your head? not necessary.

sure, meaning in your work is interesting, and can sometimes enhance the viewer’s experience. it can give the viewer insight on what made you want to create a certain piece. it can tell a secret about the piece that a normal viewer wouldn’t have gotten. but it’s not required. if you want to create a piece, or an entire portfolio just enjoying the process and enjoying making art, then you do that!

for about four to five years, i lived my life thinking that i had to put deep, intense thought into every piece i did. and you know what? i got fucking tired of it real damn quick. i was lost, i didn’t know what to make art about.

so i just stopped giving a fuck. and i pulled out my paints and i made bright, vibrant, and expressive pieces all because i was enjoying what i was doing.

if making art makes you depressed, then why even bother making art at all? if you’re not having fun with what you’re doing, then what’s the fucking point of it all?
