Learn to peep through the corner of your eye so you’re not quite so obvious when you turn.

Putting in your earphones so hopefully no random men try to talk to/harass you but not actually playing music so you can listen for footsteps/other suspicious noises behind you.

I’ve been told in self defense classes that looking at someone who is following you is actually a deterrent, so it’s ok if they notice you’ve noticed them: they now know you’re on your guard, and you’re not an easy target anymore. 

Yeah, learned the same thing in my martial arts class.
